Produced by Vino Lascito, which means ‘legacy’ in Italian, they’ve taken one of Italian’s favourite grapes (Sangiovese) and produced it in a classically shorter shaped bottle (don’t stress – there’s still 750ml in there!).
NZ Master of Wine Steve Bennett slurps his way through plenty of Italian reds to sort out the good stuff from the not-so-good stuff – it has to tick plenty of boxes (included good bang for buck) to convince him to import into Aotearoa. Vino Lasicito does plenty of box ticking and if dark, sweet fruited, juicy reds sounds like you then hook in.
Picked as Bob Campbell’s “Buy of the Week” in November ’18 with a score of 92/100. Bob said “Rubicone is an important subregion in Emilia-Romagna where sangiovese is the principal grape variety. It’s a modern style of sangiovese with reasonably intense violet, berry and bramble flavours supported by good acidity and fine tannins. An accessible red offering very good value at this price ($17.95). Packaged in a cute bottle.”
Bob then later picked it in his overall Top 10 Reds of 2018 Under $25 List! He’s what a few other local wine scribblers have had to say…

Like a lot of Italian reds this is a super value red and super versatile when it comes to food matching. Our top tip is pairing it with pizzas, pastas, casseroles and stews.
