Latvia, in northeastern Europe, is home to good quality vodka as well as various types of liqueur. One of the best is balsam, an herbal liqueur with a vodka base.

The most iconic of Latvian booze is Riga Black Balsam (Rīgas Melnais balzams). Fill an Old Fashioned glass with ice. Pour Riga Black Balsam Cherry and Soda water, add the orange peel, decorate with a cherry. Mix before serving.
