“Elegant Pinot Noir from the Manata Vineyard in Central Otago with appealing floral, red cherry, raspberry, plum and subtle floral flavours supported by a perfect measure of acidity and ripe tannins. A supple and attractive red with cellaring potential” Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Mar 2019
“Dark ruby core with plum and ruby highlights and a light pink hue at the rim. Aromas remind me of both the mineral soil attributes of Otago and the smashed strawberry fruits of Martinborough. On the palate however many of the hallmarks of a Central Pinot show with dark cherry, dried raspberry and savoury core with hints of wild thyme and minerals. Noticeable tannins and abundant acidity, a youthful wine with a core of vitality. Lengthy finish. Best enjoyed soon and through to 2024” Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier
“The new owners have expanded Pyramid Valley’s production to include an offering from their vineyard in Central Otago. Formerly known as Lowburn Ferry, it’s been renamed Manata. The 2017 Pinot Noir delivers bold black cherry and subtle earthy notes, a medium to full-bodied palate and hints of mocha and plum. With its suave, silky texture, it’s drinkable now, but it shows the concentration and length to drink well through 2026” Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“The debut 2017 vintage was hand-harvested in the Manata Vineyard, at Lowburn, and matured for 10 months in French oak barriques (10 per cent new). Deep, bright ruby, with a fragrant, fresh, berryish, spicy bouquet, it is mouthfilling and fruit-packed, with good concentration of youthful, plummy, spicy flavours. Savoury and complex, with a structured, lengthy finish, it should be at its best 2021+” Michael Cooper
Deep dark purple hue. Exotic floral, five spice and aniseed aromas leap out of the glass along with red cherries, plum’s and an underlying complexity that speaks of Central Otago. A wine full of flavour with a soft silky palate, which has crunchy red fruits and savoury textural flavours that combine to give the wine great weight and complexity. Great structure and acid give this wine an ability to age and suit any game food.
Selectively hand-picked from the Manata Vineyard in Lowburn Central Otago. The vineyard was planted in 2000 and is situated on a gentle north facing slope. The underlying soil is loess, derived from the glacial plains of the surrounding area and has been irrigated and farmed for over 160 years. A rich soil that has high levels of organic matter due to the long history of irrigation and soil formation factors. The vines grow in a happy balance with very little input of irrigation and can fully explore the soil to express the unique characteristics of the site. Handpicked, in the last week of March, 2017. Cool vineyard yeast fermentation. Ten months on original lees in French barriques, 10% new; bottled unfined.
