Caskmates, despite being the same whiskey found in the original Jameson, has a thicker mouthfeel, with more chocolate, vanilla and coffee notes than traditional Jameson. The newest Jameson whiskeys aren’t likely to make you dramatically rethink what Jameson is. But that’s OK. They’re well worth a taste.
A swapping of whiskey and beer barrels soon after, resulted in Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition – triple-distilled, blended Irish Whiskey that has been patiently finished in Irish craft beer-seasoned barrels.
On top of just being a well-constructed spirit, it’s more mysterious and unexpected elements like this that will always keep me coming back for more (if only to crack the code). The Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition is very much worth trying out.
- Nose. Crisp orchard fruits like green apples and pears, mild pot-still spices.
- Taste. Subtle touch of hops and cocoa beans, marzipan and charred oak.
- Finish. Long and sweet with milk chocolate and butterscotch.
