Valcanto Syrah is another of the great value imports brought to New Zealand by Master of Wine, Steve Bennett. In fact Steve says of Bodegas Piqueras they are “One of the best value producers I’ve discovered in my 29 years in the industry.” High praise indeed and Steve has found some crackers. This is a nicely maturing, mid to full bodied Spanish Syrah with nice fruit and a complex savoury underbelly.

“Full-bodied red wine with rich aromas of red cherries, plums and blackberries and spicy notes of black pepper. Remarkable red fruit presence on the mid-palate, soft tannins and medium-long finish. Balanced, excellent acidity, smooth and elegant in the mouth with a subtle hint of toastiness. Great ageing potential.”
